Penny Tierney MBACP
Integrative and Relational Counsellor
Hello, I’m Penny Tierney, founder of Wisdom Coaching and Counselling. I’m a qualified BSc Integrative Counsellor, offering in-person sessions in Shoreditch and online therapy for adults and young people (aged 13+).
Who I Work With
Adults
I support adults facing:
Stress, anxiety, panic, unwanted thought patterns
Depression and low mood
Burnout and overwhelm
Grief and loss
Trauma and abandonment
Relationship struggles
Self-worth and identity issues
Spiritual exploration or spiritual abuse
Teenagers (13+) — A Message for Parents
Watching your teen struggle can feel helpless and confusing. I provide a grounded, approachable space where young people can talk freely and be themselves, without judgment.
I have a strong background in alternative education and have worked with teens navigating:
Anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and sensory issues
Identity, peer pressure, and school stress
Learning difficulties and neurodiversity (ADHD, ADD and Autism)
Difficult family dynamics and past trauma
Teens often appreciate my honest, no-nonsense approach, balanced with warmth and humour. Depending on their needs, I may integrate creative or practical techniques to support their emotional growth and confidence.

My Approach
I offer a down-to-earth, straight-talking style grounded in warmth, compassion, and mutual respect. While I deeply value empathy and emotional safety, I also believe in being honest and purposeful, no fluff, and a no-time-wasting approach.
I work from a relational and pluralistic framework, which means:
We build a genuine relationship first. Trust is the foundation of all meaningful therapeutic work.
I tailor therapy to your needs, using a wide range of approaches. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” here.
Together, we’ll explore what’s going on, uncover what’s been holding you back, and work toward real, lasting change at a pace that feels safe for you.
Therapy Is a Partnership
This isn’t therapy done to you it’s something we do together. You are the expert on your life. My job is to walk with you, hold space, offer insight, and help you find tools that feel empowering and useful. Sometimes we’ll face the hard stuff; other times there will be moments of relief, laughter, or lightness because therapy should reflect the full range of what it means to be human.
My Therapeutic Toolbox
Here are some of the therapies I integrate into my work:
Person-Centred Therapy – A warm, non-judgmental space to help you feel truly heard and accepted
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Practical tools for shifting unhelpful thoughts and behaviours
Psychodynamic Therapy – Understanding how past experiences shape your present
Existential Therapy – Exploring meaning, purpose, and identity
Mindfulness & Self-Compassion – Managing emotions and building inner resilience
Creative Techniques – Art, writing, or symbolism to help express complex feelings
Life Coaching & Mentoring – Goal setting, confidence-building, and personal growth
Every session is tailored to you — your story, your goals, your pace.
About Me
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years in the finance industry. Eventually, I returned to my roots and followed my passion, retraining in counselling and coaching after facing some tough life experiences of my own. These experiences have shaped my practice and allow me to relate with real empathy and honesty to the people I work with.
Spirituality in Therapy
I’m an open-hearted, Holy Spirit-filled Christian. I share this only to be transparent about who I am, not to push beliefs or judge yours. Your therapy space is your own. I've worked with clients from a wide range of spiritual and non-spiritual backgrounds, and I honour all beliefs (or lack thereof) with care and respect.
If you want to explore your spiritual identity, faith-based struggles, religious trauma, or spiritual experiences, this can be a safe place to do so, free from judgment or agenda.
